Businesses Ending Slavery and Trafficking spent a lovely evening raising awareness about human trafficking at the BEST Rooftop Social on Wednesday, September 14th. The event was hosted by BEST board member Megan Minarik and board president, Michael Maines. Oakwood corporate housing graciously sponsored the event and provided the beautiful rooftop space, which included stunning views of South Lake Union and Downtown.
Executive Director, Mar Brettmann, Ph.D., shared the story of a young woman and how she was coerced into a life of prostitution and how businesses can help prevent future such victims. A special thank you to BEST board member, Eric Beard, who drove up from Oregon to share his very personal and heartbreaking connection to the issue.
Proceeds raised will support BEST’s programs which include expanding training for hotel staff on the signs of human trafficking. I couldn’t think of a better way to spend one of the last, warm summer evenings.
